With >380 members and strategic partners, FIWARE Foundation drives the definition of Open Source and implementation of key open standards that enable the development of portable and interoperable smart solutions avoiding vendor lock-in scenarios.
A movement of communities consisting of companies and governments that want to stimulate the exchange of knowledge, ideas and solutions between technology professionals, administrators and urban developers. Also the FIWARE iHub in the Netherlands.
A network of companies, governments, academia that will develop, test and implement tools that relate to practical questions of becoming a smart city. At the request of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (NL) in collaboration with the G40.
BTG provides a community where around 200 large companies, government, cities, stakeholders, operators and solution providers gain knowledge and share experiences. The ambition is to support cities and industries in becoming smarter and to stimulate the ecosystem of partnerships.
A network of 40 (medium-)large cities in the Netherlands, who find each other in the urban challenges they face. Next to knowledge dissemination, the main goal of the G40 city network is to promote the common interests of the G40 cities at a National level.

How do I become an event organizer?
It’s easy and just takes a short moment! Register yourself first as a user. To do so, pick the organization you represent: a City, a Company or a Non-profit organization.
When creating for the first time an event, you will be asked to set up yourself as an event organizer. That’s the moment, you need to fill some very few additional details to become an event organizer.
What’s in it for me?
By adding your SmartCities event, your promotional action will not only become part of a much larger campaign, it will also be visible on our website and on many of our press and partner mailings. To increase visibility, your network and generate new leads, you will be allowed to use the campaign, the smartcities.events logo and associated promotional materials.
How do I post my event?
All you have to do is create your profile and fill in the online form. Then you can straight away post your event. Choose between being a City, a Company or a Non-profit Organization – depending on who you represent.
You can post multiple events with the same account for the running year and even the upcoming year.
Is my event published straight away?
No, your event request is sent to our moderation team to make a final check if all is okay, interested participants have all information they need and if all targeted objectives/content have been met. Once, the moderation team has given green light, your event will be published on a local and global basis. This should not take more than two working days. Otherwise, our moderators’ team will contact you should there be more information required.
What type of events can I post?
There are so many awesome initiatives across the different continents when it comes to Smart Cities. If you are a City, a Company or a Non-profit Organization, active locally or globally, and if you run a virtual, physical or hybrid event around Smart Cities, Digitalization and Open Source somewhere in the world, then this is the place to be. We provide you with an opportunity to enable other cities and organizations to learn about your offers, projects, successes, ideas or networks, and discover the benefits of innovative, smart and sustainable cities.
Is it only meant for free events?
No, you can also post events with an admission fee. But pricing, money collection and soliciting, and any other financial and profit-oriented action with regard to your posted event us in your own responsibility. FIWARE Foundation does not take any responsibility in this regard, and keeps the right to block an event from publication on the site smartcities.com if the requested admission or co-exhibition fee is beyond market-average levels.
Can I use the smartcities.events Campaign to promote my event, too?
Of course, we’d love you to promote the overall events’ initiative as well as your own event with our affiliated promotion material. However, affiliation with the campaign is in no way intended to serve as endorsement of commercial advertisements, products or services.
By registering an event, you accept that you have read and understood the campaign rules.
How can I stay informed about upcoming events?
You can sign up to receive email updates, follow smartcities.events on Linkedin and Twitter, and join social conversations about the events using the official #SmartCitiesEvents hashtag.
What event types can I publish and promote with regard to COVID-19 rules and regulations?
You can publish and promote online and offline events alike. In case of offline events, please consult your regional and national authorities in order to always be informed about updates and arrange your events accordingly to regional or national regulations.
Do I have to pay to register my event?
No, creating an account, registering your event and using our affiliated promotion material is fully free.
Which conditions must be met to register my event?
Each event registration must meet the following conditions:
- The registration form must be submitted in clear, standard and typo-free language
- The event must showcase initiatives, trends, innovative solutions, new products or to grow your network to generate new leads
- The organization promoting the registered action must not be involved in the production or the promotion of any products, actions or events that are potentially harmful to citizens
- The action must not encourage unlawful behaviour or civil disobedience
- Entrants must be aged 18 or older
What images should I use to promote my event best way?
The featured image for your event is the first thing that attracts a user, the first impression is always an important goal to achieve. That’s why we ask you to that take care about some settings:
- Aspect Ratio 16:9
- Image size max-width: 800px and max-height: 450px
- Format .png or .jpeg
